The original hotel was built in 1883, destroyed by fire in 1889, rebuilt and was again destroyed by fire in 1911 and rebuilt in 1912. The hotel was closed by 1965 and was converted into flats. This hotel is also being converted into backpacker accommodation.
The Narrabri Herald dated 01/01/1912 reported that the fire started on Wednesday 27/12/1911 and that " twelve business houses were destroyed, including three hotels, a billiard saloon, butchers shop, hairdressers and tobacconists shop as well as a produce store, fruiterers shop and two large general stores.
All of the premises were built of wood with iron roofs, and with the exception of the Imperial Hotel, were all of one story high. One of the hotels destroyed was valued at 3000 pounds."
The former Hotel building was again ablaze on Wednesday 24/01/2007 in an unexplained fire after which experts were to determine whether it was to be demolished. Details in article below.
The former hotel was being restored as a residence but was burnt out by vandals.
