The hotel was established c1853 as the Patent Slip Inn, being demolished in 1887. It was rebuilt and renamed the Port Jackson Hotel.
The Hotel closed in the mid 1920's and the licence was used to establish the 2nd Port Jackson Hotel further along George Street.
This 2nd PJ Hotel was also demolished in the early 1970's for a multi story office block.
The licence was again transferred to establish Jackson's on George which is 10-20m north of the 2nd hotel.
