This was a store before it became the
Kings Head Hotel in 1830-1843,
The Rose & Crown 1843-1864,
Argyle Hotel 1865-67,
British Seaman's Hotel 1868-1897,
Hugh's Family Hotel 1898-1914
and lastly the
Civic Hotel 1914-1925.

The building was constructed in its current form c1886. The Former Pub was subject to conservation work in 1994.
