Former Howes' Universal Hotel in Blackall
Former Howes' Universal Hotel
In 1900 Jack Howe, Australias most famous shearer, abandoned shearing and bought the Universal Hotel at Blackall. He moved to the Barcoo Hotel in 1902 but repurchased the Universal in 1907 and retained it until 1919.
Mr Muir, who's married to Jack Howe's grand daughter, has built a replica of Howe's Universal Hotel which houses a small museum and garden Centre.
The replica Universal Hotel is built on the same site as the original and features a statue of Jack Howe out front.
