Say Gday
Apollonian Hotel, Boreen Point, Queensland
Welcome to the Noosa Hinterland and the Apollonian
As evening falls the Apollonian changes mood and the lighting brings a little magic to the verandahs, bar and restaurant.
(Dining: lunch and dinner, 7 days)
The Apollonian Hotel, first licensed in 1868, was situated in the Apollonian Vale, Gympie to provide refreshments and entertainment to the gold miners.
Characteristic of these times, a variety of shows and contests were staged: including
wrestling, billiards, cards and community balls and concerts. The Hotel, was in fact, the hub of social life in the late 1860's
Around the turn of the century, it was owned by Richard Cox (who later became Mayor of Gympie) whose daughter Mabel, a noted Lyric Soprano, drew crowds from far and wide.
Don't miss the Sunday spit roast and entertainment. It's a must. 12 to 4pm every Sunday
.Lunch 12.45 to 2pm
The Concert Hall, which is now the dining room, is dedicated to Mabel Cox and many of her personal effects are on display. The Hotel's name comes from Apollo, greek god of music and theatre.
Built of hoop pine and cedar, with 12' verandahs and 14' ceilings, the old Hotel is a unique example of 19th century Queensland architecture and retains the Concert Hall with original cedar windows and doors.
It was relocated and restored and now stands near Lake Catharaba, Boreen Point.
GOOD TIMES, GREAT FOOD AND BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDS
