Former Mt Pleasant Hotel, Moolboolaman, Queensland

"put to good use they would say"

I was also told in more detail about the arrival of the keg to MT pleasant the story is : when the train pulled up at Moolboolaman siding the keg was removed from the train taken to the pub having no refrigeration.

In those days a wet Hessian sack was put over the keg to keep cool and a large foot pump was used to pump out the keg and it didn't take long to drain it either. "put to good use they would say" (the pump has two pegs at the bottom for feet to stand it was fairly large like a old fashioned bicycle hand pump )

Left is the blacksmith Jesse head and his wife Amy Lewis . To have a hotel license one must have a black smith and stables for 4 horses. I have pictures of the rail siding.

..keeping this forgotten Pubs history alive .

Rear of the House

The rear of the building is the kitchen they were normally up the paddock and away from the main building in case of fire .

After it closed as a Pub the kitchen was brought down to the rear of the building and adjoined enclosing the back veranda to make a dining room toilet and bathroom and the old store room still remains there is a gutter that runs in between the kitchen and dinning room door way so on heavy down pours it must be monitored to watch for water lipping over it and splashing down the wall.

We call it an indoor water feature. Underneath the building it is all hand adds and the building is a timber single skin construction , we call it an inside out house as the out side frame can be seen but looks like normal tongue in groove boards on the inside. Colonial queens lander design.

French doors open to a wide lazy veranda and our bed room has no windows just doors a set of French doors (colored glass) and a single door the same half timber with colored glass pink , green and white in the frosted glass of yesteryear, that lead out on the veranda and a timber door that leads to the hall( internally ) there are locks that date back to William reins and look as if they should be on a jailers key ring .

Map showing where the rail siding was in relation to the former Mt Pleasant Hotel

The Hotel had been many things firstly a pioneer settled hotel , a butchers, shop and sorting center for good of the train . A phone exchange and a cattle farm which it remains today . There is still the old dairy and head bail and cream shed and parts of the old cattle yards as we just built a new set . The old sulky house / barn came down in a terrible storm about 4 years ago it two was hand adds . It was to smashed to repair very unfortunate .

There are Morton bay figs that are over 100 years old and old mango trees just commons about the same age it is a picturesque property compact being only 148 acres but of good quality . We have improved this small holding of the last 5 years and have many more projects to achieve and one of them is keeping this forgotten Pubs history alive .
